Maggie Smith
as Professor Minerva McGonagall
in
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
Screentime: 3 minutes and 7 seconds (2.42% of film)
Prisoner
of Azkaban, is in my opinion the best Potter film, along with both of the Deathly
Hallows finales. I feel 'Prisoner' was the beginning of a more mature and adultish
focus on the books and with Alfonso Cuaron’s unique direction (he later did the
amazing Children of Men (2006)), the overall film was quite brilliant.
Radcliffe’s voice broke, Emma Watson started blossoming and Gary Oldman gave a
wicked performance as Sirius Black. I might add it was probably the most
entertaining book.
Film: 4/5
As
for dear Maggie, she is barely in it. I mean she unfortunately gets NOTHING to
do, which really sucks. In the first two installments she seemed to be a bit
more apart of Harry and the Griffindor student's lives. There is one scene
however that she gets a little chunk of dialogue, and she is sharing the scene
with none other than Julie Christie herself (she is in only one 90 second
scene). Anyway there is nothing to extensively report unfortunately. Great
film, with barely any Maggie.
MAGGIE-METER: 1.5/5
"Sirius Black was and remains today... Harry Potter's godfather."
Please Note: There is a 2 minute deleted scene of Maggie and the Gryffindor gang on the DVD, the scene is on YouTube if you haven't seen it. It was a decent scene of McGonnagal taking charge on her house with the Sirius Black hysteria and an apparent break-in.
